Frederick Allen Leonard, better known as “Black” was born on March 30, 1967 to the union of the late Eddie Lee Leonard, Sr. and Beatrice Leonard in Rochester, New York. Frederick who most referred to as “Black” or just “Al” was a happy and very busy young boy who loved to play, explore and make others smile. He attended School #27, Douglas Middle School, Edison Technical High School and Franklin High School in Rochester, New York. As a teenager, Al developed a passion for cooking and was employed as a short order cook at Wendy’s as well as Kodak. He was a well-liked employee and was encouraged to pursue further opportunities, such as Manager. He was also employed for several years as a Buildings Operator at the Genesee Gateway Park. Al was a key player in the start of the House of Mercy and was referred to as “Brother Blue”. He often volunteered there helping sort clothes or cooking meals and often assisted his mother with serving breakfast on Saturday mornings. He touched a lot of lives at the House of Mercy.
Al was a charmer. Ask anyone who knew him. He loved to dance, listen to music, meet new people and make others laugh. He was a devoted father who loved all his children. They could not do any wrong in his eyes. He was a proud grandfather and often bragged on his grandchildren. He was a dedicated brother who stood up for all his siblings. Al adored his mother and referred to her as his queen. He made sure to always introduce anyone that was important to him to his mother. Al had a personality that was magnetic and a smile that was unforgettable. He had style, prided himself on his appearance and Al knew he was good looking!
Al was predeceased by his father, the late Eddie Lee Leonard Sr., his Uncles, Gideon Thomas Threats and Ronnie Leonard, his Aunts, Inez Troutman, Mae Francis Akins, Mae Carrie McCrary, Doris Drains, Irma Walker, and Shirley Corbit. He is survived by his mother, Beatrice Leonard of Rochester, New York, seven children, Terrance Anderson, Jesica Loren Leonard, Kyera LaShay Leonard, Samantha Kettles, Fredryanna “Teba” Beatrice Leonard, Frederick Allen Denzel Leonard, and Nyela Leonard all of Rochester, New York. Nine grandchildren, Terrance Anderson Jr., Jaden Thomas-Anderson, Oceane Anderson, Amajhe Hampton, Sergio Barton, Earnest Jones, Milon White, Jayvion Barton, and Ja’Miyah Patterson all of Rochester, New York. Five siblings, Carolyn (William) Washington of Rochester, New York, Veronica Threats of Rochester, New York, Eddie Lee Leonard, Jr. of Rochester, New York, Tynia (Preston) Gilbert of Altamonte Springs, Florida, Sylvia (Arthur) James of Rochester, New York. Godparents, Matthew Samuels and Beverly Hudson of Rochester, New York, God Brother, Daryl Mackey of Rochester, New York and God sister, Adrienne Williams of Laurel, Maryland, . Al is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and MANY MANY MANY SPECIAL FRIENDS.
